Contributing to the Project

The University of Illinois 2020 Theme is being developed as a campus effort. We are accepting contributors like you who can improve the design, features, or implementation. There are roles available for designers, developers, and anyone with good ideas about where we can go next.

Creating a GitHub account

Even if you don’t expect to contribute code, you might still want to follow along with the development process or submit feature requests or bug reports via GitHub.

If you do not already have a GitHub account, visit https://github.com. Enter a username, your email address, and a password in the sign up form, then click Sign Up.

Setting up your account for use with the web-illinois organization

First, be sure to review the End User Service Agreement from AITS. It covers what you should and should not use GitHub Enterprise for: https://answers.uillinois.edu/systemoffices/102098

To join the organization, you need to sign in with your Illinois credentials using the link https://github.com/orgs/web-illinois/sso. Anyone with a valid NetID/password can join our organization.

As a member of the web-illinois organization, you will be able to see the repositories within the organization. You can download the code for your own use, create issues, and comment on existing issues and pull requests.

Helping the project grow

If you’d like to make a bug report, request a feature, and/or contribute code, there are two ways to do so:

  • Use our contact form to tell us what you’d like us to know
  • Join the GitHub repository as described above, where our “Contributing” page (visible after SSO login) contains more information about how we’re using GitHub to track bugs, feature requests, and submitted code
